As the Covid-19 pandemic grips the globe, there’s a great deal of uncertainty. When will they have a vaccine? When will this lock down end? When will things get back to normal? When can I get to Hawaii?!
I don’t have the answers to those questions, but I can tell you this: Chances are, if you’re reading this blog from your home, you have plenty to be grateful for. Many people are stuck in a foreign country, far from their home. Some people are without a home entirely- exposed to the elements. There are many people that are in poor health (Covid-19 or not). And there are those that did not wake up this morning. Yes, you, me, we all have a great deal to be thankful for.
The Governor does not have the power to stop flights from flying into Hawaii, but he has instituted measures to deter visitors from coming. There is a mandatory 14 day self quarantine for all visitors as well as returning locals. 14 days?! Who want’s to spend 14 days stuck in an empty hotel or air BnB (if you can find one)? And even if you wait out your 14 days, what will you do after? Nothing! The beaches and parks are all closed. Most restaurants are closed, and the ones that are open are only available for drive-through. Traveling to Hawaii now, would not be a true Hawaii experience. Postpone your visit until after this pandemic is in a box.
With the number of visitors coming to a virtual halt, most people working the front lines of Hawaii’s tourism industry, will surely experience financial hardship. Financial hardship is better than a medical hardship. We have our health. We have each other. We have hope. I have a lot to be grateful for.

Is that dust mask that you’re wearing adequate in stopping the size of the stated virus?
